100 Day Project Day 42
Some days are more productive than others, and that’s just the way the paint flows. Sorry, I’ll get my coat.
Some days are more productie than others, and the productivity is so varied there’s no finished gem to decorate the blog, and that’s OK.
I started out in my sketchbook, and did a really nice little portrait in coloured pencil, and then I overworked one eye, and that’s what sketchbooks are for.
After that I got motivated to start on an idea I had yesterday, or whenever. I gessoed a spread in the A4 sketchbook I started the other day, and then got out one of my gel plates and started filling the spread with monoprints of one of my little drawings.
The little drawing was one of a series of wee faces I made on torn up book pages one morning, and a couple of them I really like. I have in the past made monoprints of one of the faces using my gel plate, charcoal and tracing paper, and there are a few different versions of the face now on paper, canvas, and in my junk journal.

It’s fun to play around with my drawing this way, and it’s also a nice way to use up paint from my palette at the end of a session, so I had the idea to make a spread of these in my sketchbook. It did take a while, but I could speed up the process if I had two plates the same size.

The spread makes me smile, so that’s all I need from an art day.
Other things I got up to artfully… ignoring my acrylic portrait that I worked on yesterday, prepping two 6″ square canvas boards, and toning the ground with a raw umber and Gamsol wash, swearing because my Gamsol pot lid broke, and that’s not really a good thing, and last but nor least, prepping a 16×20″ wood panel for another painting.
Today is Land Day, or Yom al-Ard, when Palestinians remember the events of March 30, 1976, when six unarmed Palestinians were killed and more than 100 injured by Israeli forces during protests against Israel’s confiscation of Palestinian land.
There are people who would have us believe everything began on 7th October, 2023, so as to erase all the killings and land theft that have been going on for decades.
Ceasefire Now,
Til the morn,
Suzanne
