100 Day Project Day 38
Today I set a timer for half an hour and worked in my sketchbook, and filled four pages.
The first two pages look like normal human faces, and they arrived on the page without the use of models, or references. One of my favourite processes of creating something out of nothing.
The next two pages, created in the same session without a break, are much more otherworldly figures, and they don’t match the first two at all in terms of style, and I’m fine with it. Developing a style is good, but there’s got to be room for play and exploration.
I put them on Instagram stories @thrummiebizzum
I also continued with the portrait I started yesterday, and I can tell you the ugly stage was affa painful. I’m not sure I’m out of it yet, but I spent a good bit of time mixing different skin tones and swatching. I am enjoying the challenges of realism with these classes, even if the air goes a bit blue sometimes.
I’m not sure how today’s progress is going to look on here, because on my phone the photo looks a bit orange, and the painting itself is not orange at all.

This is only the second pass, where I am trying to nail skin tones, and pull the darkest darks and lightest lights. There is some fixing to do with the mouth, but it’s coming along nicely.
It really doesn’t look this orange in real life. Blimmin phone.
Til the morn,
Suzanne
