Monday Musing

100 Day Project Day 37

I spent a lot of time in my sketchbooks today, and played with different materials: black fineliner, a grey lilac brushmarker from a set I never use, and my tub of mixed oil pastels that I also never use.

I took stock of all my sketchbooks, just to try and have a visual of what I have, and I am again imposing a ban on buying more. I have tried to organise them so they are all together, so it is easier to see that I really don’t need more. Unless I come across a nice really big one.

You can see where this might go….

In my defense, they are all different sizes, and different paper qualities, so they do have different uses and themes.

I’m thinking about the way I set limitations on myself, and whether those limitiations are always a good thing. I mean I really do have enough sketchbooks, but who is setting the rules here, and why? Is it me, or is it the inner critic shaming me for expansive creativity?

These are rhetorical questions, just musing out loud 😉

Aside from sketchbooks, I started working on a portrait class from Let’s Face It. Week 13 just dropped, and I am starting work on Week 11. It’s not really about keeping up, because the classes don’t expire, but I have a tentative plan to get “caught up” this week.

I really only got to the underpainting today, so it’s going to go through a lot of changes, particulary around the mouth, but I’ll post it anyway because I think there’s too much finished object perfection with online art sharing, and this blog is a kind of diary of my process.

Til the morn,

Suzanne
