100 Day Project Day 8

I think I am done with my oil painting. The photo isn’t perfect because some places on the painting are wet, and also we have bright sunshine and this is just a pic for this diary.

I don’t paint in oils very often, and I am quite pleased with this, even though I can see things that could be fixed, or improved. This wasn’t about making a perfect oil painting, it was about capturing an energy, and just playing, and I am happy with what I’ve made.

I realised that yesterday I forgot to include a snippet from my new sketchbook, so I’ve edited that post. I participated in an online drawing session last night where several participants volunteered to pose – 30 seconds poses, 1 minute poses, 2 minutes etc up to 6 minute poses. It was great for my wee sketchbook, even though I was logged in on my phone, and the screen was tiny. Good practise. I’ve been sketching in there again today, so I’m pleased with myself. Rare.

I’m enjoying using the cheap fineliner for this sketchbook. It’s good for practising observing value, because the lines can’t be erased, and if I get too scratchy in the wrong place, the whole thing gets quite black. It’s also good for practising proportion, because I find fitting a whole figure onto smaller pages without distortion, intentional or otherwise, a little challenging.

Til the morn,

Suzanne
