I’m guessing Hadley Freeman’s contract with the Guardian is simply ‘just give us transphobic clickbait as we’ve lost so many subscribers we need the traffic’. This can be the only explanation for giving her the privilege, clearly unappreciated, of interviewing Margaret Atwood, and then presenting that mess in exchange for payment. These people claim they want to represent women, then spend their entire word count almost unable to focus on the work the woman is presenting, because they’d rather spend time baiting for hating. ‘Obsessed’ is the correct observation, and well done to Atwood for calling her on it. Ugh.

I am now boasting eight pages of my 100 mini paintings project. I am having a lot of fun with this, which means I’m ignoring other arty projects just now, but it’s all good. One feature of this project is the freedom to not finish a page before starting another, the idea being I can come back and work on previous pages as the mood takes me. The danger, for me, is that I have a habit of not finishing things, although I have been improving on that talent recently. These mini paintings aren’t meant to be finished artworks anyway, more experimental and messy. I’ve discovered that messy is definitely one of my things, and smearing with my wedge tool is a current favourite practise. It’s probably quite cathartic too, and there’s a lot of need for non-harmful cathartic smearing in the world just now.
I was trying not to be political, but I don’t know what is worse – the fact Putin wants to be tsar of a newly reborn and enlarged Russian Empire, or the fact the potential war effort will be tackled in part by the killer clown in Number 10 who doesn’t even have a coherent IT system in the department that’s supposed to handle this sort of crisis. I mean Brexit is just the gift that keeps on fucking us over. I mean giving.

Maybe this is all somewhat related to my resistance towards making pretty, Nice art just now. Maybe I will try to draw a flower today, and see how that turns out… *grabs all manner of smearing tools in self-defense*
