100 Paintings Project

Four pages done

I started a project inspired by the book Fresh Paint (Flora Bowley and Lynzee Lynx) which sets the challenge of making 100 small paintings as a means to finding/developing your own style. I comitted to this by purchasing seven 6×8 watercolour blocks from Jackson’s Art, which means I technically have 105 pages to fill. I heard about an online project, which starts today, called The 100 Day Project, which aims to inspire people to spend 100 days doing a creative pursuit of their choice. I don’t know if I will participate every single day, but it sounds like a nice way to motivate me to fill the hundred (and five) pieces of paper, so we’ll see.

Following on from my previous post, I used some of my long abandoned soft pastels along with my Polychromos pencils. I played around with clear gesso and my Princeton Wedge because I am in love with the smeary, grungey, effect this gives with charcoal, and it works this way with pastels too. That’s the top-left of the photo.

These aren’t meant to be works of art, they are much more about process, and I will probably bind them into a sketchbook affair once I have finished.

If I finish, because there’s always the chance I won’t.
